A place where two
rivers meet the
Blue Ridge.

North Wilkesboro sits at the confluence of the Yadkin and Reddies Rivers, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Founded when Norfolk Southern built its terminus depot near the river, we've been the Key City to Western North Carolina ever since.

Since 1891

From rail depot to river town — a town shaped by the tracks, the textile mills, and the road.

Textiles and furniture factories fueled early growth here. The town's history includes a documented line from bootlegging to the start of modern-day racing — heritage that still shapes the region today.

The original Norfolk Southern depot still stands downtown, a quiet reminder of the terminus that gave North Wilkesboro its start.

Downtown & The Two Rivers

A gathering place
where living starts here.

The Yadkin and Reddies Rivers frame our town's identity — a laid-back rural lifestyle connected by heritage, the outdoors, and creative energy. Downtown's Social District, live music at the Market, and trailheads minutes from Main Street all live within a short walk.

Heritage

The depot that started it all still stands on Main Street.

North Wilkesboro grew up around the terminus of the Norfolk Southern railroad. The original depot remains downtown — a working reminder of where the town began, and a fixture of the streetscape we still gather along today.
