Six departments make the town work. Each has a plain-English mission and a way to get in touch.

- DepartmentPublic ServicesOperates and maintains the town's water treatment plant, water distribution system, wastewater collection system, and wastewater treatment facility.
- DepartmentRecreationCoordinates activities across the town and Wilkes County, including programs at Smoot Park Swimming Pool and the Woodlawn Community Center.
